For 2022, the game for the FIRST Robotics Competition is Rapid React. This year’s game is set on a 54 foot by 27 foot field with two teams of three robots each. The match starts with a 15 second autonomous period where robots operate on their own but are operated by drivers for the remaining 2 minutes and 15 seconds. Throughout the game, robots work to score points by putting “cargo” into the upper and lower hub. Cargo placed in the upper hub scores more points than cargo placed in the lower one. During the game, robots touching “launch pads” are protected from contact from the opposing team. At the end of the game, robots race to their team’s side of the field to climb the rungs of their “hangar,” scoring more points the higher you go. This game presents new challenges for robots to overcome, making it an exciting experience for teams to participate in and for spectators to watch.
